Life is stressful enough without the added pressures of finding the perfect Christmas gift, hosting an elegant New Years’ celebration, and keeping with all the other holiday traditions. By time the clock strikes midnight on January 1, I am so tired from all the events and gatherings I feel as though I’ve being pulled in twenty different directions. Hence the need for therapeutic outlets in today’s society. For the past few weeks I’ve added a new relaxation habit that I should have incorporated years ago, Mindfulness Meditation.
Mindfulness is the state of being completely present and conscious by experiencing the sensations, thoughts, and feelings around you. Since I’ve been in search of remedies to reduce my moderate level of anxiety, I eagerly jumped at the chance to begin the mindfulness path.
When I started meditating I immediately noticed the benefits, reduced stress, clear mind, and an increase in awareness. The tension and aches in my neck and back seemed to be a distant memory. My daily bouts of anxious thoughts is sure to decrease the more I include these meditation breaks. Whether I’m at work, in class, or preparing for bed I use meditation to free my mind of the constant running thoughts so I can get back to a less stressful day.
